    《富比世》（Forbes）雜志將班尼斯奉為"領(lǐng)導(dǎo)大師學(xué)院院長"。英國管理學(xué)大師查爾斯．韓第（Charles Handy）稱贊班尼斯"最大的天賦在他尋獲意義和訊息的能力，而其他人只看到事情的經(jīng)過，或是昨日的新聞。

    2014年7月31日，班尼斯以89歲高齡辭世，本文帶您一起回顧他留給我們的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)智慧。

    經(jīng)常有人問班尼斯："管理者與領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者有什么不同？"他在《領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，不需要頭銜》一書中回答，管理者與領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者最大差異是：

    想在21世紀存活，我們需要的是新一代領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者，不是新一代管理者。這其間有重大差異：領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者能夠征服環(huán)境，而管理者碰上這些威脅只會投降。畢竟我們周遭那些變幻莫測、動蕩不安與模糊不清的事物，讓我們備受威脅，稍有不慎就能窒息我們。

· 班尼斯列出了管理者與領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者的12個基本差異：

· 管理者執(zhí)行；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者創(chuàng)新。

· （The manager administers; the leader innovates.）

· 管理者是復(fù)印件；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者是正本。

· （ The manager is a copy; the leader is an original.）

· 管理者維持；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者發(fā)展。

· （The manager maintains; the leader develops.）

· 管理者注重系統(tǒng)與結(jié)構(gòu)；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者注重的是人。

· （ The manager focuses on systems and structure; the leader  focuses on people.）

· 管理者靠控制；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者懂得激發(fā)信任。

· （The manager relies on control; the leader inspires trust.）

· 管理者眼光短淺；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者看得長遠。

· （The manager has a short-range view; the leader has a long-range perspective.）

· 管理者問「如何」與「何時」；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者則問「什么」與「為什么」。

· 管理者只看近利；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者會遠眺地平線（放眼未來）。

· （The manager has his or her eye always on the bottom line; the leader’s eye is on the horizon.）

· 管理者凡事模仿，領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者凡事原創(chuàng)。

· （The manager imitates; the leader originates.）

· 管理者接受現(xiàn)狀；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者挑戰(zhàn)現(xiàn)狀。

· 管理者是（聽從命令的）標(biāo)準士兵；領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者自有主見。

· （The manager is the classic good soldier; the leader is his or her own person.）
